Take the plunge!!

Hey Little League families!
 
The Athens Little League Board of Directors has decided to join with COARC in support of their annual Polar Plunge fundraiser!  We realize that jumping into freezing cold water in the middle of February is not for everyone so we have two ways that you can show your support!  The first way is to join our team and take a plunge, all of the money you raise will be split between the Athens Little League and COARC.  If you don't like the cold, then please visit our team page and sponsor one of us!  Your donation will go a long way towards warming us up after we brave those cold waters!

Managers and Coaches needed

To all volunteers, Athens Little League is currently recruiting Managers and Coaches for the 2012 season. To anyone with interest, please email ARMINCT@HOTMAIL.COM directly. Included in your email should be: your name, return email, best phone number to be reached at, what level of play you are interested in, (ex: t-ball, softball, baseball as well as what levels for softball and baseball, minors, majors). If your are uncertain, just specify the age group. Also included if you have any previous experience and at what level. Please also include if you have a child in our little league. Keep in mind new coaches are welcome as we always have outgoing coaches that leave vacancies to be filled. We will offer a training clinic and mentoring to new coaches.

We will need all responses before 2/13/2012 prior to 7 P.M. which is our next scheduled board meeting, of which you are welcome to attend. Also, a written letter provided to any of our board members will also be accepted. Clinics

Pre-season clinics start this weekend at the Community Center. Minor/Major baseball is from 10 am to noon and T-ball goes from noon to 2 pm.  Softball clinics are on Sunday. Girls ages 7-10 are from 12 pm to 1 pm and ages 11-16 are from 1 pm to 2 pm. Unless otherwise specified, these times will be the same for all of the clinics.

Coaches Clinic - Dec 16th @6:30p - Athens Community Center - RSVP

Athens Little League is hosting a professional Coaches Clinic on Friday, December 16 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Athens Community Center gym on First St.  This is provided to you at no cost, thanks to donations provided by our sponsors shown on this website!  Anyone interested in the possibility of coaching or being an assistant on the field with the Athens Little League is encouraged to attend.  Nationally certified coach Quentin Jensen from Frozen Ropes training center in Albany is coming to teach the skills needed so you can run an efficient practice, teach better batting & fielding skills to the kids on your team, and learn about baseball pitching.  (Softball pitching will be taught on a different occasion.)  Please RSVP to mail@athensll.org and plan to arrive 10 minutes early for registration.  We hope to see you there!”

2012 Little League season registration

Although most of us are thinking Christmas, the Little League season is right around the corner. Early registration is now open. The cost for the upcoming season will be $50 per player for T-Ball thru Majors baseball and softball, and $75 for Juniors/Seniors. If you register before December 31 you will get a $10 per player discount.

There will be walk-in registration on December 18th, 12 -2 pm at the Community Center. Others will be offered on January 7/8 and February 4/5 during the clinics.

Speaking of which, preseason clinics will be offered every Saturday and Sunday starting January 7 and running through February 26.  Baseball will be on Saturdays and softball on Sundays.  Various coaches from the season will be on hand to work with the players.  Experienced guest coaches have also been lined up to come work with the players.

There is also a planned Coaches Training Clinic for December 16 (Friday) at Athens CC gym from 6:30-8:30p.  Anyone wanting to coach and is new, or returning coaches, are urged to attend.

Special Board Meeting

There will be a special board meeting on Saturday October 15th from noon till 1 pm in the  downstairs meeting room of the Community Center. The purpose of the meeting is to elect one more person to complete the required 15 member board, and to decide upon and assign individuals to specific committees. All board members are requested to be present, and anyone interested in the final open position should also attend.

There is also a tentative field maintenance day planned for this coming Saturday (October 8) at 7 am. This is to winterize both the baseball and softball fields and make certain needed repairs since the season ended. Anyone interested should meet at the little league field first.
